[Hack] Ad Blocker for Windows Phone.

They are ugly. They are irritating. They consume huge chunk of data plan. Ads are hated with a vengeance. So much so that users can go to any lengths to block them. Android users have been doing them quite successfully since some time, thanks to all those hacks and mods.

Well then, Thanks to XDA we have a really nice way of blocking ads on Lumia phones.
This tool works on all Lumia handsets with micro SD card slot. This method also prevents ads in applications and games.

According to XDA member djamol, the method is as follows:

1) You must have an interop-unlocked handset with full file system access. To have full system access, download and install this on your windows phone.
1) Download the latest "blocking" hosts file, for example, from here
2) Rename your download from hosts.txt to HOSTS
3) Connect your handset to PC, navigate to \Windows\system32\drivers\etc folder
4) Paste downloaded HOSTS file, choose "replace" in the copying dialog.
5) That is it, no need to reboot like Android phones.

To revert back, simply delete \Windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file.

And there you go. Ads-Blocked. At least that's what the djamol claims. And it works too, judging by the thread replies.  To be frank we have not tried it yet as we have been unable to glean more information because, apparently djamol has asked for his thread to be removed.

But, if you are feeling adventurous and want to experiment or if you think you can work with the provided instructions and make your Lumia ad-free then, by all means, go ahead. Here is the link to the original thread.

So, are you going to do it...?? Let us know in the comments below.
